Zeugma, which had its most glorious days in the 2nd century AD, was one of the 4 largest cities of the Roman Empire. Zeugma was truly a magnificent city, where high-ranking officers resided, as it was the headquarters of the 4th Legion, and rich merchants lived, due to its strategic advantages.
EROS MOSAIC WITH DOLPHIN
In this mosaic, unearthed during rescue excavations sponsored by Packard Humanities Institutes, figures of Eros, the god of Cup, are depicted on dolphins.
TRITON MOSAIC
In this mosaic, which was found by smugglers and smuggled to the United States, Amphytrite is depicted on Triton, her child from Posseidon. Amphitrite is the queen of the Sea that surrounds the world. She belongs to the group of daughters of Nereus and Doris called Nereids. She was the conductor of her sisters' choir. One day, while Amphitrite was dancing with her brothers near the island of Naxos, Poseidon saw her and kidnapped her.
SILENOS MOSAIC
Silenos is the general name given to aged Satyros (nature daimons who are an integral part of Dionysus' entourage). However, it is also known that this name was given in mythology to a legendary hero who raised Dionysus. There is a lot of different information about the genealogy of Silenus.
PARTHENOPE
She is one of the sirens. His grave was shown in Naples. She threw herself into the sea with her sisters; The waves washed his body onto the beaches of Naples. A monument was erected for Him on the beaches of Naples. According to another version of the legend, Parthenope was originally a young girl from Phrygia.
POSSEIDON, OCEANUS AND TETHYS MOSAIC
The most important gods of the seas are depicted in this mosaic, which is thought to be the pool floor or dining room floor. At the top, Posseidon can be seen on the creature called Hippocam, which has a horse on the front and a fish on the back.
PERSEUS AND ANDROMEDE
Perseus and his mother Danae, who managed to escape from the cruelty of his grandfather Acrisios with the help of Zeus, took refuge with Polydektes, King of Seriphos. While the young and legendary Perseus quickly became like the King's own son, his mother Danae blew Polydectes' mind and the King wanted to marry him.
IMMORTAL LOVERS UNITED IN GAZİANTEP MUSEUM
Two figures of the mosaic, which was smuggled 36 years ago from the ancient city of Belkıs Zeugma, located on the banks of the Euphrates River and a part of which will remain under the Birecik Dam lake built within the scope of GAP, were mounted on a piece in the museum, brought from the USA. The two figures of the mosaic, which were brought from the USA, where it was kidnapped, on June 19, were mounted in the vacant places of the Gaziantep Archaeological Museum, which was located in the ancient city of Belkıs Zeugma in 1993 and were preserved with a large question mark, and made ready for the exhibition, with the work done by the experts of the Ministry of Culture. was brought.
OCEANOS AND TETHYS MOSAIC
In ancient times, Oceanos, the god of all open seas in the world except the Mediterranean, lived together with Tethys, who symbolized the female element in the sea. It is believed that all rivers and rivers in the world are formed from Oceanos and Tethys.
METHIOCHUS
-A young man originally from Phrygia. Metiochos is famous for his immortal love with Parthenope, who was also from Phrygia. Metiochos was in love with a young girl named Parthenope, who swore to remain a virgin. Parthenope loved him too, but she did not want to break the great oath she had made.
GALATEIA MOSAIC
In the legend, there are two people with this name, which etymologically evokes the whiteness of milk. The first is one of the daughters of Nereus and a mermaid goddess who plays a role in some Sicilian folk legends. Galateia, the white-skinned young girl living in the calm sea, was infatuated with the monster-bodied Sicilian Cyclops Polyphemos.
Euphrates, God of the Euphrates River
Euphrates, the god of the Euphrates River, is engraved on the floor mosaic of a shallow octagonal pool in Zeugma. In this mosaic, Euphrates is lying down on a divan. The Euphrates flows from the jug under his elbow and greenery gushes out from the soil that meets the water. He holds a branch in his left hand. His upper body is bare.
YOUNG RIVER GOD OF THE FIRAT
The young river god, his upper body bare, lies slightly sideways on the grass with his elbow resting on a podium. In the upper left corner there is a picture of a building with a triangular pediment and courtyard walls on both sides. This young river god must symbolize a stream (Merzimen) that provides water to the Euphrates River. This mosaic is the floor mosaic of the pool corridor.
ACHELOUS, KING OF THE EUTHREATS RIVER
The abundance and abundance of the Euphrates was the subject of another Zeugma mosaic. The head of Acheloos, the king of the Euphrates River, is depicted with the horn of abundance scattering nuts and fruits. Acheloos has a wing-shaped moustache. Flowers are placed in her hair and her forehead is crowned with a double cornucopia horn.

Europa was a very beautiful Syrian girl. He became legendary with his bright skin and eye-catching look. He loved entertainment and traveling. He spent all his time from morning to evening wandering around the countryside, on the seashore, with his friends. Another day like this, while he was picking flowers with his friends in one of the gardens by the sea, Zeus saw Europa. Her beauty blew the head god's mind away.
DANEA MOSAIC
King Acrisios of Argos had a daughter named Danea. When the King of Agros applied to the temple of Danea, who wanted to have a son, he was informed that Danea would give birth to a son, but that her grandson would kill her. The King of Argos, who was alarmed, locked his daughter in a bronze-lined room to prevent her from having a relationship with any man.
DIONYSOS AND NIKE
In this mosaic, Dionysus, the god of wine and nature of Anatolian origin, and Nike, the goddess of victory, are seen together; Dionysus is seen in a chariot driven by Nike and pulled by two panthers.
DAIDALOS MOSAIC
The floor mosaic depicting the works of Daidalos was unearthed in the city of Belkıs' Zeugma, on the second settlement terrace, during the 1999 rescue excavation carried out under the direction of the Gaziantep Museum and with the participation of Nantes University. This mosaic is the floor mosaic of the dining room of a Roman villa. There are six figures in the mentioned mosaic.
THE WEDDING OF DIONYSOS
The ten figures on the depiction panel are from left to right; A male figure standing and drinking from a bowl - a Menad sitting and holding a torch - a dressed female figure walking to the right and the object she is holding in her hand with her arms raised cannot be understood (due to the destruction of the mosaic in this section) with a dressed woman sitting on the throne He is depicted with loose masses of fabric waving around his bare torso.
GYPSY MOSAIC (GAIA)
The female figure in this mosaic, which was unearthed in 1992, when the Zeugma Excavations were not yet on the public agenda, became the symbol of Zeugma with its mysterious looks. This mosaic, whose identity could not be definitively identified in the years when it was first published, was named gypsy because the female figure in the figure resembled gypsy girls.
DEMETER, THE GOD OF ABUNDANCE
Adjacent to the west of the Euphrates-related deities, there is a mosaic with a bust of Demeter, the god of soil and crops, crowned with wheat ears and flowers, with a horn of fertility on her left shoulder, in a square shallow pool.
Akratos
It was unearthed during the rescue excavation carried out by the Gaziantep Museum in 1998 in Belkıs/Zeugma Kelekağzı location. Akratos and Euphrosyne are sitting on the kline, and Akratos is filling Euphrosyne's glass from the deer-headed drinking vessel (Riton).
LOVE (EROS) AND SOUL (PSYKHE)
Eros, like his mother Aphrodite, brought beauty and joy to the world, burned people's hearts with the fire of love, and prepared people's happiness or doom. It had a pair of wings on its back. He would fly around the world with these wings, spreading the scent of flowers wherever he passed. Eros always had arrows in his hand.
ACHILLES MOSAIC
Achilles' mother and father, who do not want him to participate in the Trojan War, send him to the island of Skyros, to the palace of King Lykomedes. Here, Achilles wears women's clothes and mixes with the other daughters of Lykomedes living in the palace.
THE BIRTH OF APHRODITHE
The goddess of love identified in Rome with Venus, the goddess of ancient Italy. There are two different traditions regarding her birth: sometimes she is considered the daughter of Zeus and Dione, and sometimes she is considered the daughter of Ouranos. Accordingly, the sexual organs of Ouranos, cut off by Kronos, fell into the sea and created this goddess (woman born from the waves or "woman born from the seeds of God").
ANTOPE AND SATYROS MOSAIC
Antiope is a very beautiful woman. Seeing Antiope's legendary beauty, Zeus, the god of gods, falls in love with her. And he approaches Antiope disguised as a Satyros (the name given to men who perform rituals by drinking wine in the Dionysus religion).
THOSE AT THE BREAKFAST TABLE
This mosaic was unearthed in the villa in trench number 6 by a French team under the direction of French archaeologist Catherine Abadie-Reynal. The mosaic was found in the triclinium, or dining room, of a richly decorated house. This piece is of very high quality and is in near-perfect condition.
