Within the scope of the project carried out by the Ministries of Culture and Tourism and Youth and Sports, 20 university students have the opportunity to participate in the works at the museum, which hosts many unique artifacts unearthed during the excavations in the Zeugma Ancient City.

20 young university students, who are included in the "Young Volunteers Project" carried out in cooperation with the Ministries of Culture and Tourism and Youth and Sports, are participating in the work at the Zeugma Mosaic Museum, which hosts many unique works unearthed during the excavations in the Zeugma Ancient City.

The participants, who meticulously carry out the recording, photographing and documentation stages of the works brought to the museum, accompanied by experts, are excited to participate in the works in the museum, which is considered one of the largest in the world and fascinates its visitors.

“OUR MUSEUM IS OF INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE”

Gaziantep Museum Director Özgür Çomak told the AA reporter that they received many applications from people who want to volunteer at the Zeugma Mosaic Museum.

Stating that students from Turkey, Indonesia, Canada and the USA participated in the project, which started last year, Çomak said:

“Our museum is of international importance. These friends of ours are passionate about museology and especially want to see the magnificent works in the Zeugma Mosaic Museum and work in this atmosphere. Volunteers also participate in excavation work. We aim to make them love museums, culture, art and tourism. They are trying to see museology. What is being done in the museum? They see that museums are not just places where visitors come. Different studies are carried out in museums. Its cultural and artistic aspects are developing.”

Çomak stated that the participants were happy to take part in the activities at the museum.

Çomak explained that volunteer young people learn and apply the processes from bringing a work to the museum until its exhibition, and said, “We teach our friends about photography, inventory, bookkeeping, and our works in terminological and typological senses. Most of our friends are teacher candidates and will contribute to the education of future generations in terms of museums and history.” said.

“I LIKE TOUCHING THE WORKS AND BEING WITH THEM”

One of the participants, Gaziantep University Child Development Department student Seda Uğur, stated that she likes to be interested in history and said, “I like touching the works and being in touch with them. We record the works that come here and transfer them to the digital environment. "Time here is spent with pleasure." he said.

Sabriye Bilge Atik, a student at the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at the same university, explained that she is interested in museums and said, “I came here of my own will because mythology, history and literature are intertwined. “I am here both to improve myself and to have a social activity.” he said.

Emel Alagöz, a graduate of the Department of Archeology, stated that she volunteered to improve in her field and said, "We are looking at inventory records, I am trying to provide guidance." he said.
