The paintings in the Zeugma Mosaic Museum in Gaziantep, which contains thousands of years of wall paintings, shed light on history. The restorers approach the paintings as if they were surgeons and work to transfer the works to the next generation. At the Gaziantep Restoration and Conservation Regional Laboratory Restorers who are experts in their field first detect deteriorations and damages in the paintings. Then, the restorer team approaches the works like a surgeon and adds life to the works. The workers in the restorer team consist of staff from the Gaziantep Restoration and Conservation Regional Laboratory. The staff, who detect the defects that occur over time in the works, work for days in a small area of 10 centimeters and add innovation to the works. Invisible to the eye. The staff, who even detect errors, find and report the defects through special microscopes. The team in charge, which works to ensure the permanence of the works, also discovers discoloration and lightening due to microclimatic reasons, thanks to microscopes. Restorers, who x-ray the works with special devices, sometimes spend days, sometimes months. They are working on it. Restorer Uğur Yalçınkaya stated that they carried out periodic maintenance work to examine and repair the works, and stated that the paintings were combined with organic and inorganic materials and that they detected the defects using microscopes. Stating that they kept the works alive with sensitivity, Yalçınkaya also stated that during the detections, they made many determinations, from brush marks to hand prints of the masters who painted the paintings.
